Using Your Palette

As you'd expect from an image editor, there is a palette available on the editor's window. It can be found at the bottom of the window. By default, there are 16 colors to choose from, including an extra slot that represents transparency.

The Palette

The simplest way to to use the palette is to just click on the color you want to use. You can see the currently active colors in the indicator on the far left; in the graphic above, black is currently assigned to the left mouse button (foreground color), while white is assigned to the right mouse button (background color).

There are other ways to use the palette! Double-clicking on a slot will bring up Window's color selection dialog, allowing you to assign a new color to that slot. You can also shift-click to assign the current foreground or background color to a slot - useful if you picked up a new color from the image using the Eyedropper Tool.

However, there is another way to manage your palette: the Palette Manager. You'll find it in the Options menu, labeled "Manage Palette".

The Palette Manager

The Palette Manager Dialog

This dialog is designed to help you manage all of the colors in your palette. To replace a color, simply click its slot and choose the new color from the color selection dialog. You can also adding or removing slots by clicking on their respective buttons. Note: Duplicate colors will be ignored when the new palette is saved.

You also have the option to load or save this palette, or create an entirely new one.
